GAST ARCHITECTS is an established, well-respected, thirteen-person firm in San Francisco’s SOMA district that focuses on both new construction and renovations of custom, high-end residential projects in the Bay Area and beyond. Our work ranges in scope from the development of large country properties and urban whole house renovations to more modest additions to and remodeling of existing housing in styles from modern to transitional/historic.

All of our projects are completed using ArchiCAD 3D/BIM and the team thrives in keeping the firm on the cutting edge of BIM technology, including the use of virtual reality. We support our staff by encouraging continuing education, assisting in the pursuit of licensure for those who need it, and providing mentoring opportunities by senior staff.
Role: We are looking for a person with proven design talent and technical savvy to work as a Residential Designer/Project Architect with our principals to develop creative, client-responsive designs and produce the well-detailed construction documents for which we are known. The greater your ability to lead a project, the more our firm will create room for you to grow. As part of a project team from schematic design through construction administration, you will supervise and mentor less experienced staff and interface with clients, consultants, and contractors.
Required Skills & Experience: Applicants should be able to show the following:
Extensive experience and interest in custom home design, both renovations and new, transitional/historic, and modern
Knowledge of Type V construction, residential and green products and resources, and residential codes
Highly developed BIM skills in 2-D drafting and 3-D modeling. We are an ArchiCAD office and will provide training for those with a Revit background.
Demonstrated design skills, and significant technical knowledge
Strong communication abilities: verbal, written and graphic
Ability to work cooperatively with a team, and manage and motivate junior staff with integrity and a sense of humor
B.A., B.Arch. or M.Arch degree
S. F. Bay Area experience: knowledge of local codes, contractors, consultants, resources, etc.
Hand-sketching and computer rendering expertise
Actual construction experience
