Description & Details

About our Design Approach

We work in the modernist idiom. Where possible, projects are designed according to sustainable principles.

We work mostly on residential projects, mostly in the Bay Area, but also work on other project types and in other areas of California from time to time. Our current and upcoming projects mostly include modern residential remodels and additions, with some new modern homes.

Our clients are looking for a variety of modernist approaches to design. Many have an affinity for the classic modernism of the 1950s and 60s, Case Study homes, and Eichlers, others are usually looking for a warm, modern approach, while yet others are looking for a more minimalistic approach.

Please note that although our work is often informed by California's Mid-Century Modern architecture, we are not preservationists. Please visit our website at and look for us on Facebook or Instagram to find out more about us.

About Our Firm

Klopf Architecture is a 12-person firm with staff hailing from the US and various countries around the world. We have native speakers of Mandarin, Spanish, French, Macedonian, and English working in the office and a roughly even split of men and women.

We offer competitive compensation, 8 paid holidays per hear, 2 weeks paid time off to start (increases in later years), group medical coverage through Kaiser, a 401(k) plan with company contributions, and the following office work ethic: everyone works roughly 40 hours per week – no more, no less. However if you work more hours, you'll be paid more because we pay by the hour.

Our office is located in the Mission near Media Gulch, in a bright, high-ceilinged, upper level corner office.

About You
We seek a Designer / Project Assistant, preferably with a B. Arch or M. Arch, who has the ability to perform at a level typically associated with 1-2 years of architectural office experience.

The successful candidate will demonstrate design excellence, organizational skills, teamwork, and above all a strong penchant for accuracy. He / she will produce documentation for various projects simultaneously, help with site measurement and as-builts, drafting, and misc. project tasks, and will occasionally work under the direct supervision of the Principal, but will usually participate in our team-oriented design and production process under the supervision of senior staff.

Knowledge of ArchiCAD is highly desired. California Architect's license is not necessary. Candidates working on IDP are welcome and will be supported, although participation in IDP is not required.
